About back up and sync

Dorsum up and sync is a storage service that automatically saves your photos and videos to your Google Account. These photos and videos will exist accessible from any device where you are logged into your account.

Benefits

What you need to back upwards photos & videos

  • Good internet connection.
  • File sizes that tin can exist backed up.  Your files won't be backed up if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than 10 GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 x 256.
  • File types that tin exist backed up.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Alive photos can be backed up if yous utilise the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .modern, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.

If you try to support a file type not listed here, it may non work with Google Photos.

Important: Your Google Account storage is shared across multiple products similar Google Photos, Google Bulldoze, and Gmail. If y'all have used all of your storage, you lot won't exist able to back up new files.

There are ii ways to back up your phone, camera, or storage menu from your computer:

  1. Install Backup and Sync.
  2. Upload photos from your browser.

Set upward Google Bulldoze for desktop

  1. On your computer, download and install Google Bulldoze for Desktop.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. Select the folders or pictures you desire to back up and thenSupport to Google Photos.
  4. Select Done and thenSalvage.

Important:

  • If you remove a photo or video from your computer that you previously backed upward to Google Photos, information technology stays in Google Photos.
  • If y'all remove a photograph or video from Google Photos, it isn't removed from Google Drive or your reckoner.
  • Uploads can be slower and use more storage if you back up to both Google Photos and Google Bulldoze. Unless y'all need a second copy in Drive, we recommend yous back up photos and videos to Google Photos.

If you already have Backup and Sync for Drive

Backup and Sync is now Google Drive for desktop.

If you already have Backup and Sync installed, you'll be migrated to Google Drive for desktop.

To upgrade sooner, uninstall Backup and Sync and and so follow the steps above to prepare Google Drive for desktop.

Select a different upload size

You tin can change the upload size for photos and videos backed upwards to Google Photos from your reckoner.

Important: Y'all can't change the upload size for files synced with Google Drive.

Support your Apple tree Photo Library (Mac simply)

If your computer runs macOS, you tin support your Organization Photo Library to Google Photos.

Tips:

  • If you have more than one Apple Photos Library, simply the Organization Photograph Library will exist backed up. You can use Apple Photos to change the System Photo Library.
  • If your Apple tree Photograph Library is synced with iCloud, all photos and videos in your library and deject will be backed upward to Google Photos on macOS ten.15 and above.

Upload items to Google Photos from your browser

  1. On your computer, open photos.google.com.
  2. At the summit right, click Upload and thenEstimator.
  3. Find and select your photos.
  4. Click Open.

You tin also drag photos from your computer to the album to upload them to Google Photos. If y'all drag a photo to a specific album, the photo will be uploaded to that anthology.
